DAVAO CITY, Philippines – In a significant move combining cinematic storytelling with social advocacy, the docu-film “Sa Likod ng Tsapa” will channel a portion of its earnings to the Women and Children’s Desk of the Davao City Police Office. This initiative is a result of a partnership between POP Movie House, Newsline Philippines, and the Board of the Davao City Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development.
The agreement, signed in Davao City, aims to extend the film’s impact beyond the screen by providing legal, psychological, and emergency assistance to vulnerable communities, particularly women and children. Editha Z. Caduaya, producer of “Sa Likod ng Tsapa” and CEO of Newsline Philippines, emphasized the belief in using cinema to create real-world change and give back to those the film seeks to represent.
Police Colonel Hansel Marantan, whose real-life experiences inspired the film, also pledged his commitment to support those in need, including Persons With Disability (PWD) organizations. Marantan, now officially classified as a PWD due to life-altering injuries sustained during high-risk operations, shared his personal connection to the cause, stating, “I am one of them now… It’s my turn to give back.”
Roy Geonson, President of the Davao City Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development board, highlighted that the movie reflects the sacrifices made by the police, and the generosity of the producer and Marantan will significantly contribute to the protection and transformation program of the city police’s women and children’s desk.
The film, which chronicles Marantan’s controversial yet courageous journey as a police intelligence officer, is slated for international premieres in July, with screenings in Poland and South Africa. This partnership underscores a powerful message: justice extends beyond the film’s credits, beginning when the audience is moved to action.
